Product photos vs. in person: Milani

I don't want to put you off from ordering cosmetics online, but this is one major discrepancy between the color represented by the website and the color of the item in reality ...
Milani Perfect Color lipstick in Beloved
I won this Milani lipstick in a giveaway, and had looked up the color, Beloved, online to see if I would like it. It looked like a pinkish nude, which seemed good to me. The bullet of the lipstick looks pretty close to the online "swatch," too, but it's a whole different story on application.

It was nearly impossible to get the camera to focus on this swatch, because it's so sheer and pale it almost blends into my skin. It's an incredibly light flesh tone with frosty shimmer, and to give you an idea of how sheer it is, the swatch above was multiple swipes of the product.

Although the very unique shape of the bullet makes this lipstick easy to apply, the color ruins it for me. Or should I say lack of color - because that's the problem. It looks almost white on my lips, but with the frostiest glitter; very unflattering. How ironic that the product line is called Perfect Color ... It also has that synthetic Playdough sort of scent, which does not linger too long, but is still annoying.

Buying info: Milani Perfect Color lipsticks are sold at drugstores like CVS, Walgreens, and now Walmart, online at Cherry Culture, and from the Milani website. The regular retail price is about $5.50, but you can almost always find them for less than that.

I really don't know what to do with this lipstick ... I'll never wear it and I somewhat doubt anyone reading this would want to buy it! Any suggestions??

  1. I cant tell you how many times I've had the same problem! Being from the UK I can only get brands like NYX, Milani and sephora by ordering online but choosing colours is always a nightmare. One of the things I love about beauty blogs is that I can see swatches and reviews of shades and it'll often help me decide which shades are worth ordering!

You could always swap the milani lipstick with someone for something you'd actually use. Seems a waste to just chuck it in the bin :)
